The .com version is quicker to type in and easier to remember that the .co.uk version.
The elms-sc.co.uk domain name expires in February 2006 and must either be renewed or abandoned. When it expires we will no longer own the name elms-sc.co.uk and anyone that goes there will not reach our web site and will instead go to one of those stupid search sites that buy up expired domain names (see You are not allowed to view links.

for an example) or it will just come up with 'page can't be found'.
As it stands, in February when the .co.uk name expires, I don't intend to renew it and instead, just use the .com name. It's a bit of hassle because all the other sites out there that have a link to our .co.uk site will have to be asked to change the link to .com.
The reason I don't want to renew the .co.uk name is because of the stupid way .co.uk names work. With .co.uk's everything to do with where on the net the domain name points to, has to be transferred to the company that hosts your website. You can't easily change your web site host because the current host has control of your domain name and they don't like losing business so won't transfer your name to another hosting company without a fight. If you're not happy with your hosting company (which i definitely am not) then it's tough, you're pretty much stuck with them.
.com domain names on the other hand work in a different way. When you buy the .com name you can point it to anywhere on the web that you like. So if you weren't happy with your web site host, you can change hosts and make the .com address point to the new one in a matter of minutes.
At the moment only the home page of the site is at You are not allowed to view links.

The rest of our site is on my computer at home (forum, guestbook etc) and has been for about a year now. You'll know when you're on my home computer as you'll see elmssc.servebeer.com in the address bar.
As of now the whole site will be on my computer including the home page when you use You are not allowed to view links.

. The elmssc.servebeer.com name will still be used as well so your favourite links in internet explorer will still be valid.
If anyone has any objections about not renewing the .co.uk domain name in February then please post a message (in the General Chat section of the forum, not in the news section) saying your reasons and I'll take them into consideration.
