When I was a good looking young mod ( my mummy said I was!!) I loved white wall tyres. All the scooterboys I knew, who were a bit older , and generally had more sense, said that they did look nice but are generally pretty poor tyres, ( grip , how long they last etc)

What are the members experience with whitewalls?
And if they are really rubbish , is there any special tyre paint for doing your own and is this any good?

i hate the things on mine i clean them everyday and they still get dirty even when i havent ridden it and the back wheels white wall is rubbin on something and the spare wheel has a massive rip in the side where it was on the back and rubbing wth something    but i did run it without whitewalls and they dont look as good without them and i never noticed the lack in performance but maybe that is coz i am not realy that much of an experienced rider

I wouldn't touch white-wall tyres with a barge pole. The Continentals are very expensive and are absolute sh*te in the wet. The Sava whitewalls must be made from rubber bands. After 1 puncture, the inside wall breaks down, rubs against the new innertube and you get more punctures.

Best way, buy S83's or any good make 'classic tyre' and paint the white on with tyre paint...take your time though otherwise it will look sh*t!

Another option is to get those white plastic inserts. A bit naff but no-one's gonna know unless they go up real close. That way ya can have any decent tyres you want.

Having recently suffered another flat tyre on my PX i decided to jazz the beast up with some conti whitewalls, i can confirm that:

1. They look good on a PX but do not stay sparkly white for long.
2. They are a nightmare if it rains, it's like scooting on ice or ice scooting as i now call it (generally, i'm shouting it whilst clinging on for dear life whenever i see a manhole cover).
3. They are not cheap, £40 ish each plus fitting.
4. Alarmingly they have the following printed on the tyre rim 'maximum speed 62mph' (even on a PX that is a bit of a worry).

On balance i would not recommend them.......look good but skid like hell

ok point taken , its fun enough riding to hartfordshire every day without skating and like abercrombie my scoot is a workhorse. Incidently still think my LML was a good buy!
