Hi, Could any one out there please help? i brought my 16yr old son a scooter for his b'day and he's now having many problems. it wont start off the electric start even though it turns over quickly, if you use the kickstart it eventually goes after 15 minutes or so! as soon as engine is stopped it wont restart. Also a great lack of speed once finally running. bike has had new barrel, piston and rings but this hasnt cured the problem....... Any suggestions please

I don't know about the lack of speed issue. I know nothing about autos. Except they rev, and they go.

The hard starting I would put down to a bad float needle in the carb.

Having said that, these new fangled machines have so many new a wonderful inventions, I surely wouldn't know.

Before you start the bonfire Vix,I had an ER50 some years back and had a bit of a smash on it,squashing the exhaust a bit, diddnt look too bad,but had bad starting problems and lack of power when finaly running. Now im not really micknacal minded but in your situation for the best allround results i would recommend a gallon of fourstar, a clipper with a new flint, and a safe distance to retreat to....!  4ca9n2t       p.s......changing the exhaust worked by the way.

I wouldnt be as mechanical as the boys on this site but i remember having a twist n go when I was akid. A delightful chav cut a number of whires when I was at work and a number of fuses were taken out. The outcome was that it wouldnt start with the electric starter, iit had to be kick started and would die if you stopped for any short period. There would be a spark when you tried to start it , sometimes , but it was obviously shorting all over the place. When Iwent through all the wiring and fuses I was able to fix it.....
Similarily when my old px coil was cracked it would suddenly die when you were riding it , but you would get a spark whenever you were tryng to work on it, and the crack was so small it took ages to identify it.
At a push I would say take a long look at your electrics, good luck wav

hi there i dunno if this helps but i know that on most modern scooters they have to have pressure in the airfilter so check that for holes as to the reason for lack of speed
