On the right hand side of the front hub, you'll see a fat grey outer cable. Follow where it goes into the hub and you'll see an 8mm bolt. Use an 8mm ring spanner and loosen it a couple of turns. Pull the grey outer cable out from the hub. You'll probably find that the cable has snapped near the bottom. They snap all the time down there because of the action of the suspension putting stress on the cable.

Cool thanks, so basically not the cable that goes into the brake pad / calliper bit on the wheel, the other cable a bit higher up that goes into the hub ?

I'll check it later..........expect a text from me if it needs replacing  xyxthumbs

By your answer, I'm presuming it's a disc model. As you look at the front mudguard, standing to the right of the scoot... There is a cable that comes down on the left (rear of mudguard), that's the hydraulic cable for the front brake. The speedo cable is the cable that comes down at the the right.

i can see where you mean but that small bolt head is really ticky to get to ?!

I've waggled the cable at both ends and nothing appears to be loose (unless it's the drive worm and that is still held securely inside and under that hard to remove plate)......will take the scoot for a ride tomorrow and see if it has resolved itself.

If not..........i'll hunt down a small box spanner and give it try....

Yep, very tricky sometimes to get a grip on. The ring spanner I use has a slightly angled end on it.

I usually find when the cable is pulled out, that the inner cable has broken with about an inch or so protruding from the hub. Sometimes it breaks further down and the plate, rubber underneath and worm drive need to be removed in order to remove the broken piece.

Success (well, sort of), i've managed to fit the new speedo cable and it's clocking mileage when i spin the wheel....good news.

I fitted the inner cable into the existing outer cable (i did get a new outer cable as well but thought it might be easier to use the existing one....)

When i thread the 'wheel' end of the inner cable into the hole (by the wheel) it goes in fine and spins round etc etc........but......for some reason the existing outer cable doesn't seem long enough to also fit into the hole. The 'spinning' section of the inner cable is still visible but it is resting against the lip of the area where that fixing plate is, it looks as though it is going to rub and probably wear through.

Do i just need to really really stretch the outer cable to get it in ?.......or fit the new outer cable etc

Any ideas ?

Outer cables are deceptively short looking. Unless the outer cable is meant for a PK (which had similar), it should fit ok. The idea is to plug everything into the speedo first, then you plug the cable into the hub.
